EdChoice Information
What is EdChoice?
EdChoice is Ohio's state-funded scholarship program that provides vouchers to students to attend private or nonpublic schools. Recent changes have made the program universal, allowing all students to be eligible for all or some of the scholarship amount regardless of public school performance or income.
General Overview
The Educational Choice Scholarship (EdChoice) Program provides students from designated public schools the opportunity to attend participating private schools. The program also provides students who are entering Kindergarten through 12th grade scholarship opportunities based on different eligibility criteria.
The scholarship amount is $6166 for grades K–8 and $8408 for grades 9-12.
Traditional EdChoice
-
Provides scholarships for students who would otherwise attend a public school that is designated as low-performing.
EdChoice Expansion
-
This is an income-based scholarship for students in grades K–12 who come from a public school district.
-
Voucher amounts vary based on household income, with higher amounts for lower-income families.
-
In 2024, all students in Ohio became eligible for the EdChoice Expansion program, regardless of their public school's performance or their family's income.
How it works
-
The scholarship funding follows the student to the school of their choice, whether it's public, private, or charter.
-
The scholarship amount is based on the student's grade level and household income.
-
To maintain eligibility, students cannot have more than 20 unexcused absences in a single school year.
